COWS ON THE BEACH • At White Park Bay in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, cows are used as part of a conservation project led by the National Trust, which owns and manages the site. The cattle, from a nearby farm, graze the sand dunes at set times of year – this helps to reduce grass levels, creating better conditions for rare plants such as orchids and winter annuals. The same method is also used at Portstewart Strand to protect dune habitats. These efforts support plant diversity and help to maintain the natural coastal environment. Find out more at nationaltrust.org.uk/white-park-bay.
